We have tested our own design of aluminium frame of vertical and horizontal mullion for the framework for Structural Glazing.
Design Calculation taken from the weight of aluminium = 27 kN/m3
& the weight of glass = 25 kN/m3
Wind pressure coefficients: (IS:875 part 3)
Wind speed = 50m/Sec.
Design wind pressure = 1.654 kN/m2
From IS:875 Part(3), Cpe-Cpi=1.1
Design Pressure = 1.82 kN/m2

### Section properties are checked and the results are

• Bending Stress in Mullion = δ =m = 33.95 <86 N/mm2 = Result – Safe
• Check for axial load = 2.14 N/mm2<85 N/mm2 = Result – Safe.
• Checking for combined axial load and bending = 0.56<1 = Result – Safe.
• Check for deflection = Permissible deflection=7.20mm – Safe.

### End Mullion

The proposed vertical mullion is 36 x 50mm having flange thickness of 2.0mm and web thickness of 2.0mm. The mullion is assumed to be hinged at both ends.
Section properties are checked and the results are:

• Bending Stress in Mullion = δ =m = 45.93<86 N/mm2 = Result – Safe. z
• Check for axial load = 1.29 N/mm2<85 N/mm2 = Result – Safe.
• Checking for combined axial load and bending = 0.41<1 = Result – Safe.
• Check for deflection = Permissible deflection=7.20mm – Safe.

### Design for Horizontal Mullion

Mullion of size 70x50mm having flange thickness of 2.0mm and web thickness of 2.0mm

### Section properties are checked and the results are:

• Bending Stress in Mullion = δ =m = 23.97<86 N/mm2 = Result – Safe. z
• Check for axial load = 6.78 N/mm2<86 N/mm2 = Result – Safe.
• Checking for combined axial load and bending = 0.36<1 = Result – Safe.
• Check for deflection = Permissible deflection=4.8mm – Safe.
